Last November 2020, we set out to deliver storybooks to selected public schools from Pangasinan to Cagayan. However, we had to go back because Kuya Rey tested positive for Covid. Although he was asymptomatic, he had to be quarantined in a facility. Thankfully, he tested negative just before Ate Grace had to be confined for dengue. It was a long and arduous journey but we were happy to make it.
Early this year, we continued the BasaVan book-giving Caravan. The first leg was in Pangasinan and La Union in celebration of World Read Aloud Day on Feb 3 and in support of DepEd’s Brigada Pagbasa. The second leg was in Ilocos and Cagayan. The books were meant to encourage the schools doing modular learning strategy to include a different book every week in their school kit.
The ride was made possible with our ride sponsor Smart Communications who also gave out cellphone load and a compilation of educational videos, major partner Synergeia Foundation, individual donors for the story books as well as publishers and bookstores who donated to our cause: Tahanan Books, Canvas PH for Daniel Palma Tayona, Pumplepie Books and Happiness, Kahel Press, Lampara Books, Mrs. Ana Villanueva for Rene O. Villanueva. In the second leg of our journey, National Bookstore has sponsored school kits for Cagayan, Ronald McDonald House Charities is giving away toys for kids while The Storytelling Project is giving care kits as well.
We would like to thank our partners for helping further the goal of BasaVan: Netsuite, Lokal, Adarna Publishing House, Aklat Alamid, OMF Literature, LINKS, Creative Learning Paths School, StuffWrap, Rack en Roll, Kayumanggear, FSB Accounting, LINKS, Tipaklong, and Healthy Bakes by Cha.
